Algodonales Thermal Week

About this trip

Algodonales is the classic Andalusian flying village: a 1,000 m take-off, huge official landing field and thermals that switch on by late morning. Across seven days we build from ridge soaring into your first triangles, with morning weather briefings, in-air radio coaching and full retrieve support. When the inland air is overdeveloped or the wind turns, we drive to the Atlantic coast and fly the dunes of Matalascañas or the green ridges of Vejer de la Frontera, so there is almost always air to fly. Evenings are spent debriefing tracklogs over tapas in the plaza.

Flying conditions

Reliable inland thermals from a 1,000 m take-off with easy bailouts and a huge official LZ, backed up by coastal dune and ridge soaring at Matalascañas and Vejer when the inland day does not work.

Itinerary

1. Day 1
   Arrival & site briefing

   Transfer, gear check and evening ridge flight if conditions allow.

2. Day 2
   Sierra de Líjar warm-up

   Thermal technique and top-landing practice.

3. Day 3
   First cross-country legs

   Out-and-return towards Zahara with retrieve.

4. Day 4
   Matalascañas dune soaring

   Coastal excursion for smooth Atlantic sea breeze and dune soaring at sunset.

5. Day 5
   Triangle attempt

   Task briefing back at Líjar, tracklog analysis in the evening.

6. Day 6
   Vejer de la Frontera coastal day

   Green ridges and thermic coastal flying above the fields of Vejer, weather permitting.

7. Day 7
   Final flight & departure

   Morning flight at Algodonales and transfers.
