Matalascañas Dune Soaring Week

About this trip

Matalascañas is a 20 kilometre wall of dunes on the edge of Doñana National Park, where the Atlantic sea breeze creates some of the smoothest and most accessible soaring in Europe. Across seven days we use the morning breeze for ground-handling and confidence-building, then rack up hours of airtime along the dune ridge as the wind firms up. Evenings often finish with a glass-off flight before dinner in a beach-side restaurant. With wide landing areas, a shallow gradient and an experienced guide on the radio, this week is designed for beginner pilots who already fly autonomously and want to build coastal soaring confidence.

Flying conditions

Steady Atlantic sea breeze against the dune ridge produces smooth lift from mid-morning through late afternoon. Ideal for low-airtime pilots and ground-handling progression, with reliable glass-off in the evenings.

Itinerary

1. Day 1
   Arrival & dune briefing

   Meet the group, gear check and a sunset familiarisation flight above the dunes.

2. Day 2
   Sea-breeze basics

   Morning ground-handling on the beach, then short ridge flights as the breeze builds.

3. Day 3
   Dune soaring drills

   Long passes along the ridge, speed-to-fly practice and top-landing approaches.

4. Day 4
   Cross-wind site visit

   Backup site nearby if the wind direction shifts, with coaching tailored to the conditions.

5. Day 5
   Long airtime day

   Make the most of a strong sea-breeze day with extended soaring sessions and video debrief.

6. Day 6
   Glass-off evening

   Late afternoon flying as the breeze softens into glass-off, followed by a beach dinner.

7. Day 7
   Final flight & departure

   One last morning flight before packing up and transfers to Seville.
